DIY // Easy Ribbon Pick Ornament

The Design Confidential x Michaels Makers DIY Ribbon Pick Ornament Halloween is officially behind us, which means Christmas is fair game, DIY ornament projects and all things holiday may commence. I adore Fall and Halloween, but this year I’m ready to move right along into merry making, so I hope you are too!

Each year I decorate what feels like a dozen trees. Many years, that isn’t even an exaggeration so I have my techniques down to a science when it comes to ornament hanging and spacing. What I can say for certain is that ribbon is an integral part of tree decorating, an absolute must. It is also the single most difficult part of tree decorating and the one item that separates the amazing trees from the average trees. This means knowing how to do ribbon – well – is a really great tool to have in your tree decorating arsenal. This easy ribbon pick ornament is a no fail method for getting that ribbon on with ease, without it looking like the neighbor kid just toilet papered your tree.

Cut a length of ribbon at about 4 feet. Cut a triangle into each end to give it a more finished appearance.

Cut a length of wire at about 16 inches. Fold it and your length of ribbon, in half.

Secure the ribbon to the wire at the middle point and secure it with hot glue. You will want it to be gathered into a small bunch when you secure it.

I like to begin about 1 inch from the place where your ribbon and wire meet. Floral tape sticks to itself, so begin to wrap your wire moving upward toward your base. Wrap tightly and thoroughly for a strong pick. Give your ribbon a nice curl and add to your tree for easy ribbon accents without the headache of doing it the hard way!
